Can I organize my own wedding in Crete?
Yes, you can!
Many wedding couples that I met over the years, came to Crete before their wedding more than once. So, you probably have more information and experience about wedding locations in Crete than you realise. There’s always a trigger that made the wedding couple decide to have their wedding in Crete. I bed you already have a location in mind.
By now most of us are experienced travellers and have seen more than one place in this world. So why not use all these experiences and organise your very own wedding in Crete. If you browse the Internet then you probably end up with more information than you can handle.
There are some basic steps to take.
- Always visit Crete yourself a year ahead at a minimum.
- Have a carefully drafted script at hand and work against this script. You are now your own wedding planner.
- Visit the wedding locations of interest and speak with the owners. Most of the time they can handle your catering as well. A cost saver!
- Make sure you book your photographer in time. The good ones are booked early.
- Having your ceremony at another location other than your wedding dinner can prove costly.
I can go on and prescribe every step in detail, but you get the idea.
Be carefull by handling the legal part yourself.
But there are steps that can be difficult and that’s the choice where you have your “legal” wedding. If that’s in your home town, no problem. After the legal wedding, you board the plane to Crete and celebrate the wedding your way. Regardless of the location, you are in control of how the ceremony takes place. No local officials dictate how the ceremony will look like. Your wedding celebrant will bring the ceremony that fits you!
Greek authorities might proof totally different
If you decide to get legally married in Crete then I highly recommend you hire a wedding planner. That’s not an area you want to be in. A wedding planner knows what’s needed in terms of paperwork and authorization. Dealing with local Greek authorities might prove totally different from what you’re used to back home.
Whatever you decide, remember that hiring a wedding planner for some tasks can prove beneficial. Hiring a wedding planner has an additional advantage. In the event something goes wrong in the arrangements you made, you have a local representative that can jump in. Okay! That means extra costs, but the wedding planner can save your day!
To sum it up......
Yes, you are able to organise your own wedding, but you need to prepare yourself. You’ve now become your own wedding planner.
Without prior knowledge about Crete, locations and formal Greek procedures you run the risk of ending up with more problems than you can handle. But should you decide to have the legal part of your wedding in your home country, then things get much easier.
Whatever you decide, I look forward to meeting with you in Crete.
