The most popular wedding locations in Western Crete

Finding your wedding location can be a daunting task, if not impossible. You probably started by browsing through the various wedding planner’s websites and run into all these stunning photos. Yeah great, but where can I find these stunning locations myself I hear you thinking?

Series of blog articles dedicated to popular wedding locations

I’m here to help you out. I’m going to publish a series of blog articles dedicated to the popular wedding locations in the Western part of Crete. Each blog article will describe a specific location with all the details.

So whether you’re going to organise your own wedding, or hiring a wedding planner, you are prepared. Please read my blog article about Can I organise my own wedding?  in case you want to do your own planning.

Why not squeeze all the wedding locations into one blog article I hear you thinking? That would become a too lengthy article that nobody wants to read. Each wedding location blog will have as much information as possible for you to make the right choice.

For your wedding location in Western Crete, it’s best to book your flights through the Chania airport. Apart from being closer to your preferred wedding location, the Chania airport is recently completely modernized. (link to airport  https://www.chq-airport.gr/en )

Balos Beach Trail Viewpoint

I start off with a relative unknown wedding location in the far western part of Crete. The Gramvousa Peninsula. This location forms the Westernmost of the two pairs of the peninsula in North-Western Crete.  You start by driving to the small town of Kissamos. From there it’s just 16 km to the Balos Beach Trail Parking but that will take you just over 45 minutes to drive. So far so good.

Now the hard part! To get to the stunning view of the Balos Beach Trail Viewpoint you have to do a little hiking over a goat road, carrying all the materials for your wedding. It’s not far, but good to know. For the bride I suggest; take some sneakers with you and change them for the high heels at the viewpoint.

Needless to say that this location is not for larger weddings with 50 quests or more guests. No! It’s the location you visit with only a handful and this includes; the photographer, wedding planner and wedding celebrant and of course your family and friends.

A tip: hire a drown videographer for this location

But believe me…when you overcome this trail you just find yourself at the absolute most beautiful wedding location in Western Crete. The photos in this blog will tell the story! And a tip: hire a drone videographer. Only a drone video can show the real beauty of this wedding location. The photos and drone video in this article have been generously provided by Gamos Crete Wedding Planning.

And a tip! Plan your wedding ceremony and/or photoshoot just before sunset. This part of the peninsula faces directly West. You have an unobstructed sunset view with only the wonderful Balos beach below in front of you.
